Mardi Gras, “Fat Tuesday” in French is known for beads. booze and beignets. Here are a few of the libations that are traditional for this celebration.

NEW ORLEANS HURRICANE
This is the classic New Orleans drink….starts calm and ends like a storm!

Recipe
makes 1 serving
1/2 cup ice
2 oz light rum
2 oz passion fruit flavored syrup
1 cup lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
1 oz lime juice
1 oz 151 proof rum

Directions
In a shaker, combine first 5 ingredients. Shake well and pour into a Hurricane glass. Float the 151 proof rum on top of the drink.

RED SNAPPER
Inspired from the French Quarter

Recipe
recipe makes 2 shots
1 1/4 oz whiskey
1 oz amaretto liqueur
1 oz cranberry juice
1 cup ice cubes

Directions
Place the whiskey, amaretto, and cranberry juice into a shaker with ice. Shake and then strain into shot glasses.

RED ROOSTER
Usually called a madras. From this recipe you can make variations by adding another liquor: peach schnapps, raspberry vodka or pineapple juice

recipe makes 1 serving
1 cup ice cubes
2 oz vodka
4 oz cranberry juice
1/2 oz orange juice

Directions
Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in vodka. Fill glass to 3/4 full with cranberry juice. Top with orange juice. Stir.

THE TIGER PAW
An easy party cocktail with raspberry and pineapple flavors.

Recipe
recipe makes 1 serving
1 oz Southern Comfort liqueur
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz raspberry wine

Directions
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake the Southern Comfort liqueur, pineapple juice, and raspberry wine until well blended. Strain into a martini glass.

BOURBON SLUSH
A refreshing fruity blend of juices, tea and bourbon whiskey which are frozen into a slush. Top off with lemon lime soda and serve.

recipe makes 14 servings
1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate
1 (12 ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate
1 (46 fluid ounce) can pineapple juice
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 cups strong brewed black tea
2 cups bourbon whiskey
1 (2 liter) bottle lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage

Directions
In a large bowl, mix together the orange and lemonade juice concentrate, pineapple juice, sugar, tea, and whiskey. Transfer to shallow bowls or dishes, and freeze overnight.
Remove the frozen mixture from the freezer and let stand for about 10 minutes. Chop with a wire whisk or potato masher to make a slushy consistency. Place scoops of the frozen slush into glasses, and top off with the lemon-lime flavored soda.
